The Russian pianist and music pedagogue, Yuri Slesarev, graduated from the Central Music School attached to Moscow Conservatory in 1966. He studied under the guidance of Maestro Victor Merzhanov at Moscow Conservatory. His natural gift and virtuoso qualities have been exhibited in many competitions. He became the Gold Medal Winner of the All Union Competition of the USSR held in Estonia in 1969, at the age of 22. In 1972 he was awarded the Grand Prize at the Montevideo International Piano Competition in Uruguay. He won awards as a Laureate of the Leeds International Piano Competition in England and the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Russia.
Yuri Slesarev’s professional concert career began quickly thereafter. Numerous performances were a great success in England, Germany, Italy, South America, the USA, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Republic of Corea, Cuba, Japan, republics of the former USSR, etc. He made his USA debut in 1997 in San-Francisco. A return engagement was immediately arranged for 1998. Slesarev performs nearly all the virtuoso repertoire written for piano, including the works of J.S. Bach, L.v. Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Schubert, Robert Schumann, Sergei Rachmaninov, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and many more.
Yuri Slesarev was Dean of the Piano Department of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory from 1997 to 2000. He conducts many master-classes in Russia, the USA, Germany, Yugoslavia, Republic of Corea, Cuba, Japan. Many of his students have taken different prizes in the international piano competitions. Master Classes International, Inc 1999: “Maestro Slesarev will be a guest artist-lecturer for the Master Classes International week of “Virtuoso” events to benefit music education in Los Angeles and Southern California. He will perform in a free education concert sponsored by Master Classes International? Inc. for children from the Los Angeles Unified School District, and will lead master-classes focusing especially on Frédéric Chopin's Etudes and Sergei Rachmaninov in Los Angeles and in Orange Country on February 19”.
