Dmitry Sinkovsky (Violin, Counter-tenor, Conducrtor)

Born: 1980 - Moscow, Russia

The Russian violinist, counter-tenor and conductor. Dmitry Sinkovsky (Russian: Дмитрий Синьковский), studied at the Children's Music School Academic College of Music in Moscow Conservatory (Class of 1995); and violin at The Academic College of Music the Moscow State Conservatory (Class of 1999). He attended the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the class of Professor Alexander Kirov (2001-2005), combining his studies with tours to Europe. He took lessons with early music pioneer Maria Leonhardt and attended master-classes with Thomas Zehetmair, Sigiswald Kuijken, Ryo Terakado, Roger Norrington and Andreas Staier. He finished his postgraduate studies at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, completing a chamber music course with Professor Alexei Lubimov (2006-2008). He has also studied conducting at Muzička akademija u Zagrebu in Zagreb, Croatia (since 2016). He is a laureate of various international competitions: Premio Bonporti in Italy (2nd prize, 2005); Leipzig Bach Competition in Germany (3rd prize, 2006); Musica Antiqua Brugge in Belgium (1st prize, audience prize, media prize, in 2008); H.I.F von Biber Wettbewerb in Austria (Romanus Weichlein prize, prize for the best performance of Austrian music, in 2009).

In 2003, Dmitry Sinkovsky joined the ensemble Musica Petropolitana (of Russia) and co-founded Pratum Integrum, an ensemble specializing in early Russian music. He has performed in Europe, Russia, Canada, Australia and the USA with such orchestras as the Canadian Arion Baroque Orchestra, Finnish Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, German Concerto Köln, Italian Il Giardino Armonico (Director: Giovanni Antonini), Spanish Sevillian Orquesta Barroca, and Australian Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.

Dmitry leads ensembles such as Il Complesso Barocco (Director: Alan Curtis) from Italy (2007-2013), Collegium Marianum (Director: Jana Semerádová) from Czech Republic, The Harmony of Nations (Director: Elisabeth Baumer) from Austria, Bizzarie Armoniche (Director: Elena Russo) from Italy, Capriola Di Gioia (Director: Bart Naessens) from Belgium, Ensemble Claudiana (Director: Luca Pianca) from Italy and Musica Antiqua Roma (Director: Riccardo Minasi) from Italy, Ensemble 1700 (Director: Dorothee Oberlinger) from Germany. In 2011, he founded the La Voce Strumentale ensemble in Moscow and from 2012 to 2014 was a conductor of Il Complesso Barocco. There he worked with the mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, with whom he traveled to Europe and the USA.

Dmitry Sinkovsky’s repertoire encompasses a wide range of musical periods, from Italian composers of the 16th and 17th century and Biber’s Mystery sonatas to 18th century works such as J.S. Bach’s sonatas and partitas, sonatas, concertos by Locatelli, Leclair, Tartini, Arcangelo Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Georg Pisendel and also numerous later works including the violin concertos of W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms. He recorded a series of works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Anton Ferdinand Tietz, Antonio Rosetti, Johann Christian Bach and quartets by Joseph Woefl. Many of his recordings have been enthusiastically received by early music journals such as Diapason, Revista Musica, Prelude and Toccata. He has recorded numerous works with such German orchestras as WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, on the Caro Mitis label.

In September 2009, Dmitry Sinkovsky received a violin by Franscesco Ruggeri, Cremona 1680, at the Jumpstart Jr. Competition in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

Since 2005 Dmitry Sinkovsky has been teaching both viola and violin in the Early Music Department of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He currently lives in Moscow, Russia.
