The American lyric baritone, Brian Shircliffe, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from thre University of Houston (2002); and his Master of Music degree from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music (2007), where he was a student of Dr. Timothy Jones. His other voice teachers have included Patryk Wroblewski, Justin White, and Gerald Seminatore. He laspo particpated in the progams: Showstoppers Academy of Music Theater, San Antonio (1991-1996), Dayton Opera Artist in Residence (2007-2008), Lake George Opera Apprentice (2008), Utah Festival Opera (2009), Houston Grand Opera’s Opera to Go (2009-2010). In 2007, he won both third place and the Audience Choice Award in the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition.
Brian Shircliffe has performed with numerous opera companies including: Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Diego Opera, Dayton Opera, Arizona Opera, Lake George Opera, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Opera Vista, Opera Piccola of San Antonio and Opera in the Heights. He was most recently seen in the world’s first Mariachi opera, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, with Houston Grand Opera, which was performed at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. His recent roles include Zurga in Georges Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles, Heiki in the world premiere of Rockland, Dumdum in Hagen’s Vera of Las Vegas, Don Carissimo in La Dirindina, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan Tutte, and the Celebrant in the Houston premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. He recently made his opera directing debut with Opera Piccola of San Antonio. The Houston Chronicle has praised Shircliffe as having “a sure vocal presence, a natural, unblemished sound and an easy delivery.” He has performed under the conductor Conductors: Linus Lerner, Enrique Carreón-Robledo, Mark Flint, Neal Gittleman, Stephen Crawford, Justin Smith, Peter Jacoby, William Weibel, Emmanuel Joel-Hornak; and the stage directors: Stage Directors: Leonard Foglia, Brian Byrnes, Linda McKnight, David Lefkowich, Gary Briggle, Ben Spierman, Buck Ross, Wayne Wyman, Christian Räth, Jussi Tapola, Kade Smith, E. Loren Meeker, Adrianne Moore, Daniel Helfgot, Leo Cortez, Jack Shouse, Daniel Slater.
Brian Shircliffe can be heard on Newport Classics recording of Dominick Argento’s opera Casanova’s Homecoming (2004), Cruzar la Cara de la Luna (Albany records, 2010), as well as the first professional recording of Domenico Scarlatti’s La Dirindina with Ars Lyrica Houston (2011).
