The soprano Sylvia Shamai was born in Austria and immigrated to Israel as a child. Her vocal interests were inspired by her piano playing studies. She graduated from the Israeli School for Music Educators, studied vocal music under the guidance of Hede Turk and continued to develop her vocal skills in the Music academy under the guidance of Ms. Jennie Tourel and Prof. Dagobert Buchholtz. During this time she received support from the prestigious Sharet American-Israeli fellowship.
Sylvia Shamai participated in numerous performances as a solo artist, singing with leading orchestras like the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israeli Public Broadcasting System Orchestra, and the Israeli Chamber Orchestra. Many of these performances were provided under the auspices of the Abu-Gosh Festival. These awarded here with rich experience, raving reviews and wide publicity.
As a concert artist, she has taken part in the major chamber orchestra and chamber groups in Israel. She has appeared with chamber ensembles of Kol Yisrael (Israel Radio), in recitals with Prof. Buchholtz and others, and in numerous concerts in Europe and the USA with the Rinat Choir under the guidance of the renowned conductor Gary Bertini.
Her musical repertoire is rich and diverse, and spans works from the Middle Ages through the renaissance, and up to the 20th century.
In addition to her concert work, Sylvia Shamai is a devoted musical educator. She specializes in voice development as well as in music theory .She teaches singers in the School for Choir Music under the patronage of the Israeli Ministry of Science and Culture, and in the Hed College for Modern Music and Jazz. She is also a singer and a vocal trainer in the Ramat-Gan Chamber Choir. |
