Ramat-Gan Chamber Choir (Chamber Choir)

Founded: 1993 - Ramat-Gan, Israel

Founded in 1993 by Hanna Tzur, the Ramat-Gan Chamber Choir is operated and supported by the Culture and Arts Authority of the city of Ramat-Gan, Israel. Many of the singers in the choir are music and music education professionals, and several are soloists in their own right, who have performed and continue to perform in a variety of venues.

The choir has a wide-ranging repertoire, from leading a capella works by major composers, original Israeli music, to major orchestral compositions. Many of the pieces sung are based on Biblical themes, including Psalms set to music by Pablo Casals, Leonard Bernstein and others. Additional major pieces in the choir's repertoire include the Johannes Brahms' German Requiem, J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor (BWV 232), Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2. The choir sings in a variety of languages, including Latin, German, Italian, English, Hebrew, Ladino, Czech and Greek.

The Ramat-Gan Chamber Choir appears in all of the major music centers in Israel, and is a regular performer at music festivals around the country. Many of the choir's performances have been broadcast live by the Israel Broadcasting Authority. The choir completed a successful concert tour in Spain, and can also be heard on the sound track of Steven Spielberg's film, Schindler's List.
