The German conductor, Hartmut Sennlaub, studied first church music at the Folkwanghochschule für Musik, Theater und Tanz in Essen. After his A-examination, he concluded his musical studies with GMD Professor Othmar Maga at the Essener Folkwanghochschule.
In 1976 Hartmut Sennlaub was appointed as Kantor and organist at the Bürgermeister-Smidt-Gedächtniskirche in Bremerhaven, directed the Bachchor Bremerhaven there, and made numerous radio broadcasts and recordings and tours abroad as organist and conductor. In 1979 he was appointed as Kantor and organist at the Auferstehungskirche in Hamburg. He performed big choral works with the Luruper Kinderchorgruppen and the Luruper Kantorei. He made himself there a name as a qualified organist, particularly through the performance of the entire organ works of J.S. Bach in a series of 18 concerts. From 1987 to 2006, he was responsible for music at the Alten Kirche and at the Friedenskirche of Krefeld. He built there a wide range of possibilities of music performance from oratorios in churches to folk songs singing in retirement homes, from the challenging choral works with the Bach-Chor to singing and playing with the pre-schoolers of Spatzenchores in Krefeld.
After working with the two church communities and developing highly qualified choirs, Hartmut Sennlaub decided to work independently since January 2006 as a music teacher of piano and organ, singing and music theory. As a choir director, he still leads the Bach-Chor Krefeld, the choir "Gospel & More" and the instrumental group of VHS Krefeld.
Hartmut Sennlaub is a brilliant interpreter of the organ works particularly from the Baroque and Romantic periods. His improvisations in organ concerts are always a special highlight. His own long vocal training, his extensive experience in choir building, and his co-operation with renowned vocal soloists, qualify him as a singing teacher for amateurs and professionals.
