The American bass-baritone, choral conductor and music pedagogue, David T. Searles, obtained his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Voice.from the Indiana University, and received LRAM (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, performer's diploma) in voice from Royal Academy of Music in London.
David T. Searles’ singing career has encompassed 14 operatic roles and many oratorio and concert appearances throughout the nation. He performed in such places as Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Washington Cathedral, St. Martin's in-the-Field's in London and at such festivals as Tanglewood, Saratoga and Marlboro. Also, he appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. In the early 1970’s, he was heard throughout the nations of Africa, the Near East, and the Middle East under the auspices of the State Department. He has recorded for RCA, Abbey and Acorn records.
David T. Searles has been University Professor of Music (voice, choral, opera) and Church Musician of thirty years. He was the first American Lay Clerk (professional singer) at Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, England. For two seasons he was on the staff of the Berkshire Boy Choir based in Massachusetts. Both the New York Times and Newsweek Magazine have called this group the best of its kind in this country. In 1973, Searles was appointed Director of St. Petersburg Boychoir in Florida, after being on the staff of Canterbury Cathedral in England, where he had performed daily with the choir of men and boys. In the early 1980’s, he was assistant professor of music at Indiana University, and judged contests for the Indiana State Music Association; Northern Indiana School Bands; Orchestra Vocal Association; and the finals of a vocal competition at Butler University.
David T. Searles has over thirty years of festival and concert tour planning experience, including being the founder and president of the International Children’s Choir Festival at York Minster Cathedral and London (founded in 1997), the British American High School Choir Festival at York Minster Cathedral and London (founded in 2000), the Children’s Choir Festival at Canterbury & London, and the British Church Music Festival at Edinburgh, Canterbury and London. Currently he resides in Palm Coast, Florida. |
