The German bass-baritone, Ulrich Schütte, studied singing with Professor Josef Metternich at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. In 1981, he presented his artistic maturity with Schubert's Winterreise with honours.
Through extensive collaboration with broadcasters and television appearances, Ulrich Schütte has earned a reputation as a Lieder and oratorio singer far beyond Germany's borders. He has toured both to other European countries as well as in the USA, Mongolia and Brazil.
Since 1995 Ulrich Schütte teaches singing at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. In 1996 he founded the Pfingstkonzerte (Pentecostal concerts) at Schloss Hagerhof (Bad Honnef), which were held regularly until 2008. In the Jubilee Year 2006 (Heine and Robert Schumann), he gave Lieder recitals in Paris, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Bonn and Zwickau. The Jubilee Year 2007 was followed by invitations to both Frankfurt (Eichendorff - Society), as well as the Goethe Museum in Düsseldorf.
In November 2008 Ulrich Schütte founded with other music enthusiasts the concert club Verein Hagerhof Konzerte e.V., of which he is the chairman. The purpose of this association is, in particular, to promote art and culture in the public services. Especially important for the club is to inspire the youth back to classical music. The Association is a non-profit organisation. The tradition of the Pfingstkonzerte at Schloss Hagerhof, launched by Ulrich Schütte in 1996, continues and expands. For Pentecost 2009 a small festival is in planning.
Besides the "usual" romantic Lieder Literature, Ulrich Schütte surprised again and again with new programmes, so he discovered the (forgotten) Johann Vesque von Püttlingen (19th century), accompanied by Martin Wiemer. In addition, the singer interprets the modern Lieder (20th and 21st centuries) by Hanns Eisler, Fortner to Jürg Baur and Martin Redel. A stroke of luck in finding new things is a lost Lieder cycle - poems by Erich Kästner, composed by Edmund Nick. The Lieder cycle Die 13 Monate was presented by Ulrich Schütte publicly since the beginning of 2009.
Ulrich Schütte has 11 CD's. He is married with Irena Wachendorff since 1999. |
