The German soprano and choral conductor, Gudrun Schröfel, studied music education and vocal pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. In addition to also studying choral conducting under Eric Ericson and singing with Arleen Augér, she performed as an oratorio singer and Lieder recitalist for several years as well as teaching at a music school, where she led the choir and orchestra.
Following this, Gudrun Schröfel took up a professorship at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, before holding the same position at the Hanover University of Music and Drama.
With the Mädchenchor Hannover and the Johannes Brahms Choir, Gudrun Schröfel as won countless prices and awards at national and international choir competitions. Invitations to international festivals and concert tours have led her across Europe, to the USA, China, Russia, Brazil and on numerous visits to both Israel and Japan. She developed a diverse repertoire with her choirs, covering every musical genre, from Renaissance-era works to first performances of numerous newly-commissioned pieces. Her high artistic standards can be heard on many commercially-released recordings.
1989 saw Gudrun Schröfel awarded the Lower Saxony Music Prize, while in 2004, she received the Lower Saxony Cross of Merit (First Class). She sits on the advisory board of the German Music Council's choral activities. |
