The German baritone, Nicolas Schouler, began his musical training at the age of eight with the Limburger Domsingknaben. There he got to know the important works of choral music very early on and received his first lessons both in music theory and on the piano. Furthermore, at the age of 18 he completed his training as a choir director in the Diocese of Limburg. After graduating from high school, he began studying for his Bachelor of Music degree in Singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main in the class of Professor Berthold Possemeyer (2011-2016). This was followed by Master of Music degree in Singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln with Professor Mechthild Georg (2016-2019), which he completed in July 2019. Further artistic impulses gave him master-classes, among others with Helmut Deutsch, Mechthild Georg, Lucio Gallo and Johannes Martin Kränzle.
Nicolas Schouler made his opera debut in October 2014 with a staging of the opera Così fan tutte by W.A. Mozart in the role of Guglielmo at the Staatstheater Koblenz. Other important milestones in his artistic career include the role of Enrico in Haydn's L'isola disabitata as part of a university production within the Rheingau Musik Festivals 2015, as well as the main role in the contemporary work for an actor alles was größer als mein körper ist hat lange mit dem sprechen aufgehört (everything bigger than my body has a long time stopped speaking), which he played in the summer of 2016 for the "Tanz der Künste" project in Frankfurt am Main. In the opera production 2019 at the Kölner Musikhochschule, he performed the role of Tarquinius in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia.
In addition to his appearances as an opera singer and actor, Nicolas Schouler also works as a freelancer for professional concert choirs and performs regularly as a soloist as well as with ensembles and choirs on a national and international level. He was a member of TourneeOper Mannheim (2015-2017), WDR Rundfunkchor Köln (2017-2018), Ensemble Vokalexkursion Köln (2017-2019). |
