The Swiss bass, Benno Schöning, received his first singing lessons at the Musik-Akademie Basel with Derrik Olsen. He pursued his education at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe with Professor Aldo Baldin. In 1992 he moved to the Musikhochschule Lübeck, where he studied with Professor James Wagner, graduating with the diploma for stage and concert singing. He participated in various master-classes, such as John Shirley-Quirk, Wolfgang Schöne and the Italian tenor Enrico Facini, which then remained his teacher for two years. Since 2000, he receives advice from Tom Krause in vocal and professional issues.
The artistic focus of Benno Schöning is the Lieder and concert singing. He was engaged as a singer/performer for the production of Winterreise by the Tanz-Companie Lübeck. This production was awarded the State Cultural Award of Schleswig-Holstein. This was followed by radio recordings with the NDR (Schubert’s Lieder in the orchestral version by Johannes Brahms) and SWR (Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by JS Bach)
The concert repertoire of Benno Schöning includes the best-known oratorios and masses (including J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Mass in B minor (BWV 232), George Frideric Handel’s Messiah , Felix Mendelssohn’s Paulus, Orff’s Carmina Burana). In Mexico City, he sang J. Brahms’ Requiem, which was broadcast live on television. |
