Fabian Schofrin (Counter-tenor)

Born: January 28, ____ - Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Argentinan counter-tenor, Fabian Schofrin, first studied cello and singing. He came to Europe in 1993 and perfected at the Centre de Musique Ancienne in Geneva and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Fabian Schofrin has collaborated therefore with several ensembles, including Akademia (Director: Françoise Lasserre),, La Sfera Armoniosa (Director: Mike Fentross), Accademia Bizantina (Director: Ottavio Dantone), Elyma (Director: Gabriel Garrido), Les Arts Florissants (Director: William Christie), Concerto Italiano (Director: Rinaldo Alessandrini) and Ricercar Consort (Director: Philippe Pierlot), and also under the direction of conductors such as Jean Marc Aymes, René Clemencic Christophe Gesseney, Gonzalo Martinez and Andrew Parrott.

Since 2006, Fabian Schofrin is co-founding member of the ensemble Cappella Mediterranea directed by Leonardo García-Alarcón; ensemble in residence at the CCR d’Ambronay with which he produced: La Selva Morale by C. Monteverdi for Radio Suisse Romande and recorded Mottets and Madrigals by Peter Philips, and Madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi and Barbara Strozzi, Dido and Aeneas by H. Purcell, Judas Maccabaeus by George Frideric Handel with the orchestra Les Agrémens and the Choeur de Chambre de Namur, for Ambronay Editions label distributied by Harmonia Mundi, France.

In opera, Fabian Schofrin has sung in various roles: Shepherd in Orfeo, Umana Fragilità and Pisandro in The Return of Ulysses and Ottone in The Coronation of Poppea by Monteverdi (K617 records); Général Lepidus in Il Tito by Pietro Antonio Cesti; Mercurius in La Didone and Général Delmiro in L’Hipermestra by Francesco Cavalli; The Sorceress in Dido & Aeneas by H. Purcell.

Among his projects, Fabián Schofrin sing, G.F. Handel's Messiah, Christmas Oratorio () by J.S. Bach, Vespers by Antonio Vivaldi, the 3rd book of madrigals by Sigismond d’India and the 5th book of madrigals by C. Monteverdi, Ottone in the opera Agrippina by G.F. Handel at the Opéra de Monaco, Siface in Scipione L’Affricano, opera by F. Cavalli at Théâtre de Champs-Elysses à Paris and a recital of enician music with == Anne Sofie von Otter in Paris and Brussels. He also recorded for the label Ricercar Madrigals by Matteo Romero, together with ensemble Clematis de Bruxelles.

Fabián Schofrin has also recorded for Erato, K617, Opus111-Naive, Zig-Zag Territoires, Arts, Stradivarius, Naxos, Ambronay Editions, Radio Classica, Radio Klara Belgie, Radio Suisse Romande, Radio e Television Svizzera Italiana,, Radio Netherlands International and Spanish television. Hae currently lives in Nyon, Switzerland.
