The Brazilian conductor, Manfredo Schmiedt, graduated in conducting from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS); earned a Masters in Conducting from the University of Georgia (USA) where he served as Assistant Conductor from 1996 to 1998. He had further conducting studies in Germany, Holland, Argentina, the USA and Brazil, with Eleazar de Carvalho, Roberto Duarte, Lutero Rodrigues, Ernani Aguiar, Carlos Alberto Pinto da Fonseca, Emilio de César, Arlindo Teixeira, Hans van Homberg, Helmuth Rilling, Jean Fournet, Eric Ericson, Mark Cedel, Melinda O’Neal and Yoel Levi. He was guest conductor at the High School Workshop sponsored by the University of Georgia.
Among the major orchestras Manfredo Schmiedt has conducted are: Orquestra Sinfônica do Sodre (UR), Orquestra Sinfônica Provincial de Rosário (AR), Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica (RJ), Orquestra da USP (SP), Orquestra Filarmônica de São Caetano do Sul (SP), Orquestra Filarmonica do Espírito Santo (ES), Orquestra de Câmara da Ulbra (RS), Orquestra de Câmara do Teatro São Pedro (RS), Orquestra de Câmara Sesi/Fundarte (RS), Belgrade Philharmonic orchestra (Serbia) (2002) and Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television (Serbia).
Manfredo Schmiedt is Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquestra Sinfônica da Universidade de Caxias do Sul (OSUCS), of Rio Grande do Sul. É Regente do Coro Sinfônico da OSPA and Assistant Conductor of the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre (OSPA). As a choral conductor, he conducted the Coro Sinfônico da Ospa (Porto Alegre), on July 25 in Porto Alegre and the Coro de Câmara Ars Vocalis.
Manfredo Schmiedt participated in the 6th Mercosul Biennial: Fim de Film, with artist Jorge Macchi. Awards he received in Brazil include: Prêmio Açorianos de Música; Director’s Excellence Award. for his participation in the play The Soldier's Tale by Igor Stravinsky; First place in the Young Conductors Competition (Concurso Jovens Regentes), sponsored by the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre (OSPA). |
