The Italian counter-tenor, Aurelio Schiavoni, graduated with honors from the Conservatorio “Niccolò Piccinni” in Bari, both in Piano under the guidance of Maestro Emanuele Arciuli (2001-2005), and in Singing under the guidance of Professor Katia Angeloni (2001-2006). He continued his technical-interpretive vocal studies with Maestro Michael Aspinall, with Professor Gloria Banditelli and with Maestro William Matteuzzi. He also obtained the II level Academic Biennium in Renaissance and Baroque Singing with full marks and honors under the guidance of Professors Patrizia Vaccari and Gloria Banditelli at the Conservatorio “Arrigo Pedrollo” in Vicenza (2008-2010). He also graduated in Mathematics at the Università degli Studi di Lecce (1999-2006)..
Aurelio Schiavoni has won several national and international competitions: 1st (and only) prize at the V Concorso di Canto Barocco “Francesco Maria Ruspoli” – Vignanello (VT); 1st prize at the VI Concorso di Canto Barocco “Francesco Provenzale” (NA); 1st prize at the I Concorso “Città dei Sassi” – Matera (Claudio Desderi president and Patrizia Ciofi jury member); “Maria Moriconi Mattii” Award at Concorso “Città di Montegiorgio” (AP); 1st prize at the XII Concorso “Valerio Gentile” – Conversano (BA); 2nd prize at the II Concorso “Festival delle Murge” – Corato (BA); 2nd prize at the VI Concorso Europeo “Don Matteo Colucci” – Torre Canne di Fasano (BR); 1st overall prize at the X Concorso Internazionale “Vicenzo Scaramuzza”, chamber music section (duo voice and piano) - Crotone; 1st prize at the VII "Valeria Martina" International Music Execution Competition, chamber music section (duo voice and piano) - Massafra (TA); Special Prize at the I Concorso “Cappuccilli, Respighi, Patané” – San Severo (FG). He was also a finalist at the III Internationaler Gesangswettbewerb für Barockoper Pietro Antonio Cesti (Innsbruck) and at the II Concours de Chant Baroque de Froville (France) and semi-finalist at the Handel Singing Competition 2011 (London).
Aurelio Schiavoni is active as a counter-tenor singer since 2003. His repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the Baroque, to the Classics but also to the rediscovery of the compositions written for castrato or en travesti of Italian romanticism (Vaccaj, Zingarelli, Nicolini, Morlacchi, etc.) as well as contemporary music, Lieder and chamber music.
Aurelio Schiavoni is a member of various early and non-early ensembles. In 2007 he acted as a soloist and chorister at the Salzburger Bachchor and St.-Peters-Stiftung (Salzburg, Austria). He has collaborated on the "Unpublished project Abruzzo" singing in first performance also for the International Musicology Conference held at the National Institute of Terni Ortona, the unpublished arias of the composer Matteo Capranica. He made his debut with the opera La finta cameriera by G. Latilla at the Festival Latilla in Casamassima (Bari) in the role of Filindo and he played the role of Alceste / Demetrio in the opera Il Demetrio by Leonardo Leo in first performance in modern times. He was a soloist in Dixit by George Frideric Handel conducted by Christopher Hogwood, in Antonio Vivaldi's Beatus Vir conducted by Roy Goodman and in the Ascension Cantata BWV 11 by J.S. Bach conducted by Alfredo Bernardini.
In June and September 2010 he was a soloist in the Vespro della Beata Vergine by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi respectively in the frame of the Ravenna Festival and the MITO Festival in Turin. In July 2010 he sang the Stabat Mater and the Salve Regina by G.B. Pergolesi at the Festival Les Baroquiales in Solon (France). In June 2013 he participated as a chorister at the III Academy of Vocational Training organized by the Fundacio Cima (Barcelona) and thus became part of the group La Capella Reial de Catalunya (Director: Jordi Savall).
He has recorded as soloist the Laudate pueri by Nicola Porpora for Radio Vaticana and the Vespro della Beata Vergine by G.B. Pergolesi for the Paragon (published with the magazine Amadeus) and the Cantate Italiane by A. Steffani for Brilliant Classics. He currently lives in Vicenza Area, Italy. |
