The German bass-baritone, Jörg Sabrowski, was born in Kiel and grew up in Concepcion / Chile (until 1975). After graduating from high school in Kiel in 1986, served in the army for two years as clarinettist and saxophonist at the Marinemusikkorps Ostsee. In 1988 he began studying singing and music education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg with Professors Hans Kagel, Tom Krause and James Wagner, which he completed with distinction. He also participated to several productions of the Hoschschule (among others: Elias, Messias). Other artistic impulses in the field of Italian music literature, was the collaboration with Professor Cecilia Fusco (Trieste) and Carol Byers (Vienna).
Radio concerts (Bartolo in Barber of Seville, Figaro in Marriage of Figaro) with the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg conducted by Klaus-Peter Seibel were followed in 1993 by his first engagement. Since the 1994-1995 season he is a permanent member of the Bühnen der Landeshauptstadt Kiel. There he sang roles as Figaro and Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro), Papageno and Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Posa (Don Carlos), Marcello (La Bohéme), Ping (Turandot), Gianni Scicchi (Gianni Scicchi), Germont (La Traviata), Amonasro (Aida), Eugene Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Klingsor (Parsifal), Donner (Rheingold), Gunther (Götterdämmerung), Orest (Elektra), Dulcamara and Belcore (L'elisir d'amore), Escamillo (Carmen), Eisenstein and Dr. Falcke (Die Fledermaus), Peter Besenbinder (Peter Besenbinder), Mamma Agatha (Viva la Mamma), Lindorf, Coppelius, Dr. Miracle, Dapertutto (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Duke Bluebeard (Bluebeard's Castle) and King (Die Kluge).
Jörg Sabrowski won several competitions, including the singing competition "Elise Meyer Foundation" and was a guest at the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, where he sang inter alia Leonard Bernstein's Songfest under the baton of David Shallon. Guest engagements have taken him in the role of Posa (Don Carlos) at the Bonn Opera, Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro) at the Staatsoper Kassel, as Donner (Das Rheingold) in which Adam Fischer conducted Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. In addition, he sang at the Staatstheater the title role in V. Ullmann's opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis in 2006, the central role of Jean in the opera Julie by P. Boesmanns. International Enagements took him to the Graz Opera House (Dulcamara in Liebestrank) and Santiago de Chile (Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro). In 2009 he sang the title role in the opera "Lazarus" by Cristobal Halffter, under the baton of the composer at the premieres in Dresden (Dresdner Philharmonie), Valencia (Valencia Symphony Orchestra) and Athens (Athens Symphony Orchestra). In 2010 he made his debut as Wozzeck in Wozzeck and Danilo in The Merry Widow. He also sang in this year under the direction of Kent Nagano with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra at the National Opera in Oslo, the part of Morbio in Die Schweigsame Frau by Richard Strauss.
Jörg Sabrowskis concert repertoire includes the great sacred works such as J.S. Bach’s Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Johannes Brahms' Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, Verdi's Requiem, J. Haydn’s The Seasons up to the secular concert program as Symphony No. 14 by Dmitri Shostakovich, Des Knaben Wunderhorn by Gustav Mahler, Songfest by Leonard Bernstein and Neapolitan songs by Henze. His concert engagements have included the Internationalen Bachakademie Stuttgart under the direction of Helmuth Rilling, Staatskapelle Berlin, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and Bamberger Symphoniker.
