The Smithsonian Chamber Players (= SCP), as their name implies, are artists in residence at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and are one of the ensembles that are part of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Program. Since its inception in 1976, the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society has been a leader in the original instrument movement in the USA.
The Smithsonian Chamber Music Program has studied, performed and recorded on the musical instruments in the Smithsonian’s world-renowned collection. Drawing on the skills of curators, conservators, performers, music and cultural historians, the Chamber Music Program is the largest museum undertaking of its kind in the world. Directed by cellist Kenneth Slowik, the Smithsonian Chamber Players have made numerous recordings to great acclaim. In performances that have been termed virile, vivid, buoyant, and brilliant they have charmed audiences at over 600 concerts nationally and internationally. |
