Steinitz Bach Players (= SBP) was founded in 1968 by Paul Steinitz to enhance modern Bach scholarship in performances played according to period style. At foundation, this was controversial but many of the aspects of baroque performance practice pioneered are standard form today. Broadcast performances of Bach Cantatas with the London Bach Society Choir, tours and an annual series of South Bank concerts as part of the London Bach Society unique and historic Bach cantata cycle have yielded an enviable and distinguished reputation for the orchestra. Annual appearances in the Society's London Bach Festival have provided for development and opportunity in the last decade, complemented by invitations from British and European Festivals.
Promoted exclusively by the London Bach Society, the SBP is able to provide a promoter with a wealth of musical expertise and high class playing, offering a wide choice of programmes to suit all budgets, from intimate salon and small-scale cantata presentations to the fulfilment of the grand design. Choral programmes with either English Voices or Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, both directed by Timothy Brown, are also available for consideration. |
