The American soprano, Lindsay Russell, obtained her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from James Madison University in Virginia in 2007. In 2010, she received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where she performed the roles of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Gilda in Rigoletto. She also partcipated in the Young Artist Program of The Glimmerglass Festival (2010-2011); Young Artist Program of Seattle Opera (2011-2012); and Young Artist Program of Santa Fe Opera (2012-2013). She won the Grand Prize for Junior Young Artist at the Florida Grand Opera’s Young Patronesses of Opera Competition in 2011, and 2nd prize at the Jensen Foundation Competition in 2011.
Praised as “radiant and authentic” (Opera News) with a “gracious tone,” (New York Times), Lindsay Russell is quickly making a name for herself in the operatic world. In 2009 she attended the Aspen Music Festival, where she sang Belinda in Dido and Aeneas and covered Musetta in La Bohème. In 2009 she was also seen in the American Musical Theater Ensemble’s production of And the World Goes Round: The Songs of Kander and Ebb.
Other past performances include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Genevieve in Suor Angelica, Jenny in Street Scene, Ms. Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Barbarina in Die Hochzeit des Figaro. During the 2010-2011 season, she sang the role of Laurie Moss in The Tender Land at Glimmerglass Opera and covered the role of Gilda in Rigoletto with Virginia Opera.
Recent performances include Sophie in Werther (2011) and Norina in Don Pasquale (2012) as a member of the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program. In November 2011 she went to China, where she made her debut with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, singing the Queen of the Night arias in Die Zauberflöte and Flaminia’s aria from Haydn’s Il Mondo della Luna. In summer 2011 she performed Frasquita in Carmen and A Young Woman in the world premiere of Jeanine Tesori’s A Blizzard in Marblehead Neck with The Glimmerglass Festival. In 2012, she debuted with the Yakima Symphony as the soprano soloist in Carmina Burana.
As a recent apprentice artist with Santa Fe Opera, Lindsay Russell the role of Fiakermilli in a production of Arabella (2012) and was seen in both Apprentice Scenes showcases (2012), performing Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos. She made main-stage performances there as the First Bridesmaid in Le nozze di Figaro (2013) and performed the “Bell Song” from Lakmè in the Apprentice Showcase (2013).
Performances in 2013-2014 season included the first Bridesmaid in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Santa Fe Opera, and two role debuts: the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte with Opera Roanoke, Valencienne in The Merry Widow with the Concert Artist Series of Sarasota, and The Lady with a Hand Mirror in Dominic Argento’s Postcard from Morocco with Portland Opera,. In 2014-2015 season, she will make a company debut with Arizona opera as The Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, perform Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Syracuse Opera, and sing the soprano solo in Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Yakima Symphony. |
