The American pianist, composer, producer and songwriter, John Rusnak, is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. He was a winner of the prestigious Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition, and was a competitor in the International Bach Competition.
John Rusnak's many performances include an internationally televised papal concert at the Vatican on Christmas Day, 1999. He performed for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Encore Society in November, 2006. Busy as a performer and session player in Los Angeles, his playing styles include classical, pop, jazz and rock. His solo playing is featured prominently in the 2007 film "Steal A Pencil For Me", directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Michele Ohayon and scored by Joseph Julian Gonzalez. This film was shown at the United Nations on April 16, 2007.
John Rusnak is also a successful pop songwriter, and his work has been published by Warner Brothers Publications and OCP. His songs have been recorded by such amazing pop artists as Siedah Garrett and Lauren Frost. He has composed music for film, most recently a Sony digital short directed by Rowdy Herrington.
John Rusnak's CD of the J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) was featured on the hit CW Network TV series "Smallville", on October 19, 2006. Track 22 of his recording of the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988), "Variation 21: Canon On The Seventh", was heard during the opening scene of the episode "Arrow". John's playing of Frédéric Chopin's Etudes is featured in the Showtime movie "Down Came A Blackbird" and the USA TV series Highlander. His solo jazz and improvisational piano playing is heard in the Canal+ movie The Chinese Box, and the Hollywood Pictures film The Tie That Binds. Track 3 of his popular F. Chopin Etudes CD, "Opus 10, No.3 in E Major: Lento, ma non troppo", was also featured on the TV show Smallville, beginning the episode "Bound". Rusnak's CD of the F. Chopin Etudes, Op. 10 and Op. 25, was released on indie label Visionmark Records, and was recorded in legendary Ocean Studios in Los Angeles.
