The American baritone, music teacher and musicologist, David Rugger, obtained his Master of Music degree in Music History, Literature, and Theory from Butler University (2009-2011); and his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Musicology from Indiana University in Bloomington (2011-2017).
David Rugger is a versatile performer and scholar. He is concurrently working towards his PhD in Musicology at Indiana University and developing a solo career as a baritone/bass-baritone. His research interests include voice and vocal timbre, nationalism, the music of J.S. Bach, and historically informed performance practice. He is flexible as a performer (since 2011), whether on the operatic stage or in concert, as a soloist or an ensemble singer. He is particularly passionate about the oratorio repertoire, from the high baroque through the present day, with special emphasis on the music of J.S. Bach.
David Rugger was baritone staff singer at Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis (2010-2013); Virginia Adams Best Fellow at Carmel Bach Festival (2015); Associate Instructor of Musicology at Indiana University Bloomington (August 2013- May 2015; including solo, consort, and choral singing, with special emphasis on Baroque music). Currently he is baritone/bass choral scholar at Trinity Episcopal Church, Bloomington Iindiana (since 2014); Visiting Lecturer in Musicology at Indiana University Bloomington (since August 2015); Instructor of voice, violin, and viola at Stafford Music Academy (since October 2015). |
