Stephan Rügamer (Tenor)

Born: September 3, ___ - Germany

The German tenor, Stephan Rügamer, received his musical education mainly at the Hochschule für Musik in Lübeck and com-pleted his studies with Professor James Wagner and Professor Günter Binge.

In the early stages of his career Stephan Rügamer was engaged at the Lübeck Theatre (1996-1998) where he had the opportunity to sing the main roles of the lyric tenor's repertoire such as Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Belmonte in W.A. Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail, Alfredo in La Traviata, Alfred in Die Fledermaus.

Since his 1999 debut at the Berlin State Opera as David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under Daniel Barenboim, Stephan Rügamer is a regular member this house. Here he sang parts like Steuermann in Der Fliegende Holländer (Daniel Barenboim/ Kupfer), Raimbeaut in Robert le Diable (Marc Minkowski/Quander), Chateauneuf in Zar und Zimmermann, Narraboth in Salome (Sebastian Weigle/Kupfer), Cassio in Otello (Daniel Barenboim/Flimm), Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (Salemkour/Everding), Chevalier in Der Ferne Klang (Michael Gielen/Mußbach), Sänger in Der Rosenkavalier (Rattle/Brieger), Boris in Katja Kabanowa (Salemkour/Thalheimer), Schuiskij in Boris Godunow (Daniel Barenboim/Tcherniakov), Macduff in Macbeth (Sebastian Weigle/Mußbach), Marquis in Der Spieler (Daniel Barenboim/Tcherniakov).

Also under the baton of Daniel Barenboim Stephan Rügamer sang his first Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer during a visit of the Berlin State Opera at the Teatro Real in Madrid 2003, in Berlin 2006 and under Daniel Harding in 2013. Other guest performances brought him to all important German opera houses, to Théâtre Châtelet in Paris as Matteo in Arabella, to Teatro Real Madrid as Schuiskij (Boris Godunow) and as Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), to Teatro alla Scala di Milano, singing Marquis in Prokoffiew's Der Spieler and Loge in Das Rheingold and furthermore to the festivals of Lucerne, Chicago Ravignia, Salzburg, Bregenz and St. Petersburg.

In concert Stephan Rügamer has sang with the major broadcast and symphony orchestras in Germany and abroad. Conductors with whom he has worked include Pierre Boulez, Christoph von Dohnányi, Martin Haselböck, Pablo Heras-Casado, Ruppert Huber, Philippe Jordan, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Ingo Metzmacher, Kent Nagano, Helmuth Rilling, and Sebastian Weigle.

Recent operatic and concert highlights include Tom Rakewell in Igor Stravinsky's Rakes Progress at the Berlin State Opera (Coleman/ Warlikowski), Loge (Rheingold) at the 2013 BBC- Proms in London, New Years Concert 2014 with Staatskapelle Berlin under Pablo Heras- Casado, St. Matthew Passion with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under Jaap van Zweden, Tichon in a new production of Katja Kabanov (Simon Rattle/Bredt) at the Berlin State Opera.

New Recordings include Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde (Schoenberg/ Riehn) at Dabringhaus & Grimm, Loge in Das Rheingold with Valery Gergiev at Mariinsky Label, a DVD of Alban Berg's Lulu (Daniel Barenboim /Bredt) and a DVD of his Loge at Teatro alla Scala di Milano 2012 (Daniel Barenboim/ Cassiers).
