The Russian mezzo-soprano, Elena Rubin [Rubyn], joined in 1978 joined the Maly (Mikhailovsky) Opera Company. In 1979 she graduated from the class of choir conducting from Leningrad musical college. In 1984 she graduated the vocal department of Saintt-Petersburg Conservatory. In 1985-1986 she took the master-classes of great Russian mezzo Irina Агсhipovа. In 1986 Rubin won the 2nd prize and special prize ‘For the best performing of the music by Spanish composers’ at the F.Vinas Intemational competition in Spain.
In the 1995-2011 seasons Elena Rubin was acclaimed bу the theatre and musical critics as the best opera singer for the parties of Countess in Queen of Spades bу Tchaikovsky, Madam Flora in the Menotti's Medium, Amneris in Aida and Ulrica in Masked Ball by Verdi and many others.
Elena Rubin has an unique experience as the chamber singer and the soloist for the big oratorical pieces. She successfully toured in many countries, which includes Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Japan, and France etc. She performed under direction of such great musicians as Valeri Gergiev, Pavel Kogan, Gennadi Rozdestvensky, Semeon Bychkov etc.
Since 2003 Elena Rubin has been an associate professor of the St Petersburg State Theatre Academy, since 2008 she has been deputy Chairman of the St Petersburg branch of the Union of Concert Artists of Russia. The singer holds vocal master-classes at the Boston and Oviedo Conservatories.
Her repertory includes: Clytemnestra in Iphigenia, Stepmother, Hanna in May Night, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Gianetta in Les cloches de Corneville, Stepmother and Death in Blood Wedding, Key-keeper in Man of La Mancha, Lel in The Snow Maiden, Amneris in Aida, Ulrica in Masked Ball, Quikly in Falsataff, Eboli in Don Carlo-Don Carlos, Maddalena and Giovanna in Rigoletto, Larina in Eugene Onegin, Suzuki in Cio-Cio San, Elizabeth in Mary Stewart, Devil Girl in The Tale of the Priest and of his Workman Balda, Countess, Polina and Milovzor in The Queen of Spades, Martha in Iolanthe, Lyubasha, Petrovna in The Tsar’s Bride, Weaver in The Tale of Tsar Saltan, Flora in La traviata, Martha in Faust, Bertha in Il barbiere di Siviglia. |
