The Welsh soprano/mezzo-soprano, Angharad Rowlands, graduated with an MA (Hons) in Art History from the University of St Andrews in 2017 where she held both vocal and choral scholarships, and was the recipient of the Cedric Thorpe Davie Award for musical excellence. She currently works in London as a freelance singer and holds a choral scholarship at St Martin-in-the-Fields. She studies with Sarah Pring.
In 2014 Angharad Rowlands was awarded a place on the Monteverdi Choir Apprenticeship Programme under Sir John Eliot Gardiner after which she became a full member of the choir. Since then, she has toured extensively around Europe and the USA. In 2016 she appeared as a soloist at Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona, Philharmonie de Paris, and Kursaal, San Sebastian in the choir’s J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) tour which was performed entirely from memory. Further highlights with the choir include an international tour of L’Orfeo to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi, performances at the BBC Proms, the Palace of Versailles and Buckingham Palace.
Equally at home on the concert platform, Angharad Rowlands has performed as a soloist for George Frideric Handel’s Messiah and Dixit Dominus, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and Cantata BWV 199 Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut, Nicola Porpora’s Salve Regina, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, and Copland’s 12 Songs of Emily Dickinson.
Future projects include European tours of Verdi's Requiem and J.S. Bach's cantatas with the Monteverdi Choir, the soprano soloist in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem, as well as engagements with The King's Consort and The Marian Consort (Director: Rory McCleery). |
