The American choral conductor, composer and music pedagogue, Michelle Renée Roueché, is the daughter of John Edward Roueche, Nelda Roueche Taylor. She obtainher her Bachelor of Musicdegree in Piano Performance from Texas Technology University (1987); her Master of Music degree in Vocal Coaching and Accompanying from University of Illinoisl (1989); and her Doctor in Musical Arts (DMA) in Choral Conducting from Arizona State University (1996). She studied accompanying under the tutelage of world-renowned accompanist to Pavarotti, John Wustman, and conducting with the legendary Donald Bailey.
Michelle Roueché served as Assistant Professor choral music at Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa (1989-1993); Faculty associate choral music at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona (1993-1996); Director music at Brenau University, Gainesville, Georgia (since 1996). Currently, she is Director of Choral Studies and Professor of Music at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB). She is also Conductor of Concert Choir. Equally accomplished at the piano and the conductor's podium, choirs under her direction have been invited performers for numerous Georgia Music Educators conventions, for Spivey Hall's prestigious concert series in Atlanta, for two Southern Division conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, and most recently for the Southwestern ACDA convention in 2014.
Michelle Roueché is a member of National Association Teachers Singing (NATS), and American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). An active clinician and choral arranger, she is represented by Walton Music and Treble Clef Music Press. Her compositions have been featured at various ACDA and All-State conventions, GMEA, and the Southeastern ACDA Women's Choral festival. She has performed in Carnegie Hall under the baton of Robert Shaw, and also appeared as an Artist-in-Residence at North Carolina State University.
Her compositions include: Bring A Torch, Jeannette Isabella (choral arrangement, 1999), O Magnum Mysterium (original choral composition, 1999), Three Spirituals (choral arrangements, 2000), Lux Aeterna (original choral composition, 2000), Four Shakespeare Songs (2002), Cantate Domino (2004).
Michelle Roueché is married to baritone David M. Thomas (married May 27, 1995). She also serves as the Director of Music and Worship at Woodway First United Methodist Church near Waco. She currently lives in Belton, Texas. |
