The German pianist, Peter Rösel, started to learn the piano at the age of 6. He studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow first with Dmitri Bashkirov and later with Lev Oborin. During his years spent in Moscow he won prizes at the International Schumann Competition, the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the International Piano Competition in Montreal.
Peter Rösel has appeared as guest in over 40 countries on all five continents. His appearances in international festivals such as Edinburgh, the London Proms, Perth, Salzburg, Hollywood Bowl and Hong Kong have been met with enthusiastic receptions from both public and critics alike. He has played with such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker and Dresden Staatskapelle. His conductors have included such well-known names as Herbert Blomstedt, Dutoit, Bernard Haitink, Dmitri Kitaenko, Kurt Sanderling, Suitner and Termirkanov. Peter Rösel has worked very closely with Kurt Masur and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and has played as their soloist in over 200 concerts during international tours. It was Kurt Masur who invited him to play Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3 at the 150 Jubilee Celebrations of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to his many concert appearances, Peter Rösel has made numerous recordings. The works range from the piano concertos to solo piano works and to chamber music. His artistic range makes him one of the most highly acclaimed pianist of his generation. |
