Judith Rautenberg (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Speyer am Rhein, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Judith Rautenberg (Judith Mayer), received her first professional musical education in the subjects organ, piano and choral conducting in her home-town. She studied singing as well as singing education at the Kunstuniversität Graz with Ulf Bästlein. She completed her master's degree in singing (majoring in opera) with honors, as well as singing education, and then completed her training in the interpretation study "Lied und Oratorium" with Joseph Breinl and Robert Heimann. Master-classes with Klesie Kelly-Moog, Marjana Lipovšek, Christa Ludwig and Charles Spencer completed her training.

Engagements have led Judith Rautenberg to the Kammeroper in Munich, where she performed in The Thieving Magpie by Rossini, as well as in the Haydn's opera Untreue lohnt sich!...oder auch nicht. Other roles, such as "Cherubino" in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro or Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel unde Gretel, but also modern ones like Malik in L'Upupa by Henze are included in her repertoire.

Her main focus, however, is the Lied and oratorio interpretation. In this area, she has performed with the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Helmuth Rilling, Masaaki Suzuki, Hans-Christoph Rademann and Rupert Huber. Tours have taken her to the Bamboo Organ Festival Manila with J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232), to Pakistan together with her pianist Stephan Rahn for recitals on behalf of the Goethe-Institut or to the Bach Week in Krasnoyarsk as a lecturer for Western European vocal technique in connection with J.S. Bach's works.

However, Judith Rautenberg is also interested in ensemble work, so she is a regular guest with the Gächinger Kantorey (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann), ChorWerk Ruhr (Director: Florian Helgath) or the Rundfunkchor Berlin and MDR Rundfunkchor.

Since April 2014, Judith Rautenberg has been teaching as a guest lecturer children from Staats- und Domchor Berlin at the Universität der Künste and, since last year, also girls from the Konzertchor der Berliner Singakademie. She currently lives in Berlin
