Pulcinella is a group of virtuoso soloists gathered in a chamber spirit around cellist Ophélie Gaillard. Its members, all of whom appear with the most prestigious ensembles, share a passion for Baroque music played on period instruments. Highly experienced musicians, who attach great importance to sound and articulation, they explore some of the major works of the repertoire, while aiming to present littleknown or completely unknown pieces as well. Part of Pulcinella’s repertoire is dedicated to important 17th- and 18th-century works for concerted cello, of which it is one of the foremost ambassadors. The ensemble’s first recording, devoted to Antonio Vivaldi’s complete Cello Sonatas (Ambroisie) was acclaimed by the international press in 2006. The following year its tribute to the cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini (Cello Concertos, Aria academia “Se d’un amor tiranno” with Sandrine Piau and Fandango with Rolf Lislevand) also received excellent reviews in the French and foreign music press. In 2010, the ensemble recorded works with the violoncello piccolo by J.S. Bach. There are also many collaborations scheduled for this season (2009-2010), notably with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, the Saint-Denis Festival, and the Palazzetto Bru-Zane - Centre de musique romantique française in Venice.
he ensemble work regularly with the finest singers of the younger generation, including Nuria Rial, Salomé Haller, Gaëlle Le Roy, Sandrine Piau, Max Emmanuel Cencic, Xavier Sabata, Christophe Dumaux, Carlos Mena, Dietrich Henschel, who are among Pulcinella’s guests at major festivals, such as Saint-Denis, Uzès, Beaune, Froville, Santiago de Compostela, and at venues such as the Cité de la Musique and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Pulcinella also gives its musicians - who are all world citizens - an opportunity to settle for a while, with anchorage in the Île-de-France region, and more specifically the Seine-Saint-Denis department, with an artistic residency at the Saint-Denis Festival in 2009, and in 2010 a creative residency at the Collège Henri Barbusse in Saint-Denis as part of the “In Situ” programme supported by the Seine-Saint-Denis General Council.
