Publick Musick is an award-winning orchestra and choir whose passion is performing the masterworks of the Baroque Era. Founded in 1995, the ensemble is based in Rochester, New York and appears regularly throughout the Northeast. The ensemble is comprised of musicians from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences but who share a love and desire to perform their core repertoire with attention to performance practice and on period instruments. The Music Director of the ensemble is Thomas Folan.
Publick Musick has appeared in festivals and at colleges and universities throughout the country. It is the only fully professional chamber orchestra and choir located in Upstate New York and draws its musicians primarily from the Northeast corridor cities of New York City, Chicago, and Boston. Many of the musicians also enjoy careers as soloists, ensemble players, recording artists, and teachers.
Publick Musick has appeared at Boston Early Music Festival, Bloomington Early Music Festival and Rochester Bach Festival, and made national and international concert tours). The ensemble performed J.S. Bach’s Lutheran Masses in F and A Major (BWV 233-234) in June 2005, as well as a concert of Baroque and Blues in September, and J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) in November 2005. |
