The Swedish pianist, Daniel Propper, was born in Sweden but is descended from a well known Viennese musical family. He studied first at the Royal College in Stockholm, then at the famous Juilliard School in New York, thereafter settling in France and completing his diploma at the Paris Conservatoire. His teachers have included the great pedagogue Gunnar Hallhagen, as well as Jacques Rouvier, Bruno Rigutto and Gerard Fremy; he was also coached and greatly encouraged by the legendary Tatiana Nikolayeva. He has won many prizes, most notably, in 1990, the most substantial grant ever allocated by the Swedish Royal Academy of Music.
Daniel Propper has lived in France for the last eleven years and developed an impressive career. Having performed in Europe, America and Asia for many years, most recent performances in 2005 have brought him to The Forbidden City in Beijing, as well as to UK, Sweden and to many festivals all around in France.
Daniel Propper's recent recordings have won great praise, most particularly that of J.S. Bach's monumental Goldberg Variations (BWV 988). In addition, he has recorded a CD intitled "19 Short Pieces", a CD with great piano master pieces by Grieg and others devoted to the music of Frédéric Chopin, Francis Poulenc, Mussorgsky etc. Soon to appear are two films featuring Daniel Propper playing the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) and Lyric Pieces by Grieg.
Daniel Propper lives in Dourdan, a medieval town, 30 kilometers from Paris. |
