The American lyric coloratura soprano, Coril Prochnow, studied Italian and trained for many years in the Bel Canto style with Mario Carta, UCLA Professor Emeritus, and studied vocal technique with Leonid Smetannikov, a People’s Artist of Russia and the Voice and Opera Faculty Chair at Saratov State Conservatory of Music in Russia.
Coril Prochnow is specializing in oratorio and bel canto operatic roles. She performs regularly with Opera Santa Barbara, Repertory Opera Company and other opera companies, chorales and orchestras in the Los Angeles area. She collaborates with composers in the performance of new works, premiering compositions in live performance or as a studio singer. Her principal operatic roles include Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni; Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin; Angelica in Puccini’s Suor Angelica; Elisabetta in Verdi’s Don Carlo; and Leonora in Verdi’s Il Trovatore., Miss Wordsworth in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Hanna in The Merry Widow and Tosca in Tosca. A frequent soloist in oratorio, her repertoire includes major works by Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach. and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, George Frideric Handel, Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L.v. Beethoven, Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saëns and Sergei Rachmaninov, as well as new works by living composers in both opera and oratorio.
Coril Prochnow has been Section Leader at Opera Santa Barbara (October 2012- April 2013); Principal Soprano Soloist at Camerata of Los Angeles Chorus & Orchestra (2009-December 2014); Soprano Section Leader at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Glendale (2010-Present); Principal Soprano at Repertory Opera Company in Los Angeles (2010-Present); Principal Soprano at LA Regional Opera Companies (2010-Present), incluiding Celestial Opera Company, Concert Opera of LA, Golden West Opera, Independent Opera Company, West Hollywood Opera.
In addition, Coril Prochnow has worked in Sales at Woodridge Press (1995-2006), Dual Graphics (2006-2008), and Lithocraft Company (2008-2009); and as Review Coordinator at laurislist.net in Los Angeles (2012-September 2013), the premier community for classical vocal pros in Southern California. |
