The Oratorienchor im Kirchenkreis Potsdam is one of the traditional choirs in Potsdam. They dedicate themselves to the choral symphonic repertoire of the 17th to the 21st centuries and give three to four performances per year.
Founded in 1957, Oratorienchor Potsdam was director by Professor Ekkehard Tietze until 1979. In this way, the choir has shaped the cultural and church music life of the city of Potsdam for over sixty years. The roots of the choir go back to 1814, the year the Gesangvereins für klassische Musik (Choral Society for Classical Music) was founded. The Städtische Chor Potsdam and ultimately the Oratorienchor Potsdam emerged from this choral society.
Since 1981 the choir has been directed by KMD Matthias Jacob for three decades. He profiled the choir by expanding its repertoire and formed the choir into an expressive ensemble. In 2014, Dr. Joachim Walter succeeded Matthias Jacobs as Artistic Director and gave the choir important new musical impulses, so works by Zemlinsky, Leonard Bernstein, Puccini and others were developed and performed for the first time under his direction. After a serious illness and the early death of Dr. Walter in 2015 Tobias Scheetz temporarily took over the direction of the choir. Kantor Johannes Lang has been the Artistic Director of the Oratorienchor Potsdam since October 2016.
The Oratorienchor Potsdam, with an age structure of 20 to 70 years, is professionally supervised by Silke Hähnel-Hasselbach in terms of voice training. The choir receives professional support from répétiteur Inge Lindner. |
