Stéphanie Pothier (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: December 1, 1975 - Magog, Québec, Canada

The Canadian mezzo-soprano, Stépanie Pothier, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in harpsichord from the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique de Montréal (1991-1998)); and her Diploma as stage singer from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart in Germany (2002-2004).

With her voice both dark and radiant, mezzo-soprano Stéphanie Pothier is at home in a widely varied repertoire, from Baroque coloratura and bel canto to new works as well as the full spectrum of the romantic repertoire. She combines her vocal strength with keen theatrical skills to bring concert music and opera to life. She appears as guest soloist with numerous Canadian companies and ensembles such as Opéra de Montréal (since September 2005), Opéra de Québec, Orchestre Métropolitain, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (since September 2005), Orchestre de chambre McGill, Chants Libres, I Musici…

Upcoming and recent performances include Wagner’s Parsifal and Bruckner's Mass No 3 in F-minor performed under Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Festival de Lanaudière, L.v. Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and Kent Nagano, W.A. Mozart’s, Verdi’s and Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky, Igor Stravinsky’s Les Noces, George Frideric Handel's Messiah and numerous J.S. Bach cantatas and oratorios.

Very active on the contemporary music scene, she premiered Vera Lynn in Julien Bilodeau’s Another Brick in The Wall, at Opéra de Montréal and Fée Tourterelle in Gilles Tremblay’s L’eau qui danse… (Chants Libres). She was Lily in the Canadian Premiere of Su Lian Tan’s Lotus Lives (Magnitude 6).

Stépanie Pothier sings under the baton of reputed conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Andrew Megill, Alain Trudel, Stephen Layton, Lorraine Vaillancourt, Michel Brousseau and Kent Nagano. She currently lives in Montréal, Québec, Canada.
