The German conductor and composer, Pierre-Dominique Ponnelle, is the son of the achess Margit Saad and the director and stage designer Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. He passed through the ‘classical’ stages of a conductor’s apprenticeship in rapid time.
Pierre-Dominique Ponnelle started his independent career as a conductor while still studying at the conservatory and university. From the very beginning, he was equally at home on the concert platform or in the orchestra pit of the opera and has conducted, for example, at the Staatstheater in Kassel, at the Tirol Landestheater in Innsbruck, at the Opéra Municipale de Marseille. Parallel to this, he had the very good fortune to be accepted as a student of Herbert von Karajan with whom he studied in Salzburg and Berlin for Four years.
Naturally, Pierre-Dominique Ponnelle has also made guest appearances with renowned orchestras: Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR), Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and Zagreber Philharmoniker. |
