Réné [René] Ponchelet was a Luxembourgian choral conductor. In 1959 he was appointed director of the La Maîtrise Sainte-Cécile de la Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg and held this post for over 30 years. In 1965 he created a female choir, thus transforming the Maîtrise into a mixed choir and allowing its singers to discover the great repertoire and the richness of sacred music. The Maîtrise de la Cathédrale was able to develop a rich and varied activity through various musical recordings, participation in the performance of great works with the RTL orchestra and especially its numerous spiritual concerts both in the Grand Duchy and abroad . He was succeded in in 1991 by Jean-Paul Majerus. |
