The German mezzo-soprano, Kaja Plessing, studied opera at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover.
From 1993 to 1996 Kaja Plessing was engaged at the Deutschen Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. Later she appeared as a guest at the Lower Saxony Staatsoper Hannover and the Stadttheater Hildesheim. Since 1996 she was a freelance singer in the areas of oratorio and classical Lieder, appearing, in addition, in recitals with programmes of Gershwin, Bernstein, Holländer, Weill and others. Beyond that she sang in the premieres of Clark's Flug durch das halboffene Fenster as well as Lieder for texts of Rose Ausländer (music of Marius Rintzler). The Kurt Weill year 2000 led her to co-operation with the documentary film Kurt Weill to Paris in "Salle Gaveau". Further concert tours led her, apart from the European countries, to India, Ireland and New York.
Kaja Plessing appeared at the Theater Bielefeld, first as a guest as Flora Bervoix in La Traviata. Since 2003-2004 season she is firmly engaged at this theatre, and has already appeared as Marthe Schwerdtlein in Charles Gounod's Margarethe, as Christina di Medici von Lothringen in the premiere of William Ward Murta's Starry Messenger, Magdalene in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Barbara in Janacek's Karja Kabanova, Mary in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer, in Schubert's Winterreise and as Bradamente in George Frideric Handel's Alcina.
