The Portuguese pianist, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, studied in Portugal with Helena Costa and completed his Higher Course in Piano with Pedro Burmester at the Superior School of Music in Porto. As a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship holder, he studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the tutelage of Liudmila Roschina - Chief of the Piano Department - and, with the classification "Excellent" in all the disciplines, he was awarded a Doctorate in Piano Performance. He is Doctor of Musical Arts with the highest classification from the Moscow State Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky. He also participated in various international master-classes. He was appreciated and advised by some of the world's top musicians, including Elisso Virsaladze and Dmitri Bashkirov.
Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro is regarded as one of the most respected Portuguese musicians. He enjoys an active career in solo and chamber music, with a wide-ranging repertoire extending from the Baroque to nowadays. He gave the public premières in Portugal of such works as the 24 Preludes & Fugues Op. 87 by Dmitri Shostakovich, the Chaconne of Sofia Gubaidulina, the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra Op. 33 by Antonín Dvorák or the piano version of the Seven Last Words by Joseph Haydn. He is often invited as a soloist with several orchestras, like the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa or Orquestra Nacional do Porto, under the direction, among others, of John Nelson, Marc Tardue, Roman Brogli-Sacher and Charles Olivieri-Munroe. Prize-winning Pianist, he has performed in Europe, Asia and America and his pianistic ability has gained high critical recognition. He is also the artistic director of the Schostakovich-Ensemble (DSCH).
At the present, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro is Professor at the Instituto Superior de Estudos Interculturais e Transdisciplinares, in Almada, and at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Porto. He frequently gives piano master-classes.
Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro's first CD, featuring works of Modest Mussorgsky, Alexander Scriabin, Dmitri Schostakovich, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, is in its second edition. Filipe's recording entitled "Berlin Sessions", recorded in the German capital where he lived for several years, includes sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti, Carlos Seixas, L.v. Beethoven, Richard Wagner and Sergei Prokofiev. This CD has won rave reviews. He recorded a CD with the pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes, featuring the works of Gabriel Fauré, Eric Satie, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc and Maurice Ravel. |
