The Swiss pianist, Francesco Piemontesi, studied with Nora Doallo in Lugano and with Arie Vardi at the Hannover University of music. Alongside his studies he gained valuable inspiration from his work with Alfred Brendel, Cécile Ousset, Murray Perahia, Mitsuko Uchida and Alexis Weissenberg. He is the recipient of numerous international prizes, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and a 2009 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. In September 2009, BBC named Francesco one of its “New Generation Artists”.
Francesco Piemontesi has made guest appearances at the festivals: Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, BBC Proms, Cheltenham Music Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Kissinger Sommer City of London Festival, Lucerne Festival, Ludwigsburg, Martha Argerich Project in Lugano, New York Mostly Mozart Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Roque d'Anthéron Festival, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Chopin International Music Festival Warsaw; and can look back on performances at the halls/venues: Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie in Berlin, Southbank Centre and Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna. In 2012, he was announced as Artistic Director of the Settimane Musicali di Ascona, a music festival near his home town Locarno..

Francesco Piemontesi nurtures a special artistic interest in chamber music. He has played with Yuri Bashmet, Renaud Capuçon and Gautier Capuçon, Daniel Müller-Schott, Emmanuel Pahud, Heinrich Schiff, Antoine Tamestit, Jörg Widmann, Emerson String Quartet and Ebène Quartet.
