The Slovak mezzo-soprano, Mária Petrašovská, studied singing, composing and conducting at the Conservatory of Bratislava from 1964 to 1971. She continued her studies in Brno (Brünn), and finished them with a diploma in composition.
Guest engagements have taken Mária Petrašovská to the Leipziger Oper and the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, where she sang Frau Reich in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, and Maddalena in Rigoletto. In 1985 she came to Halle (Saale). Here she sang e.g. many Handel roles, and the title roles in Carmen and Gluck's Orpheus. Her roles in recent seasons also include Annina in La Traviata - a role which she has been singing since 2004, also at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin - Erda in Rheingold, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, Mother in Hänsel und Gretel. Filipjewna in Eugene Onegin, Old Prioress in Francis Poulenc’s Die Begnadte Angst, The Mistress of the novices in Suor Angelica and Narbenfrau/Helga/Frau Hinrichs in Christian Jost's contemporary opera Die Arabische Nacht. At the Aalto-Theater in Essen and at the Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich, she sang Cornelia in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, in Ulm Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, in Dessau Larina in Eugene Onegin.
Mária Petrašovská it is also dedicated with great intensity to concerts. So she performed with the Thomanerchor Leipzig and the Dresdner Kreuzchor and sang on radio and television with leading orchestras. Guest performances have taken her to the Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, Konzerthaus Berlin, Kölner Philharmonie, Bonn’s Beethovenhalle, Kuppelsaal Hannover, Bremen’s Kongresszentrum and Karlsruhe’s Konzerthalle, as well as to the former Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Finland, Italy and Israel, where she appeared in Nazareth and Jerusalem, singing the alto in J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248).
At the Oper Halle Mária Petrašovská appears this season as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Jente Anatevka, Lametta in Des Kaisers Neue Kleider, Mrs. Quickly in Falstaff, and Fürstin Bozena Guddenstein zu Clumetz in Gräfin Mariza. |
