The American soprano, Charlene Peterson, graduated from the Oberlin College with Bachelor of Art degree, and from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in voice.
Charlene Peterson gained professional experience early in her career with a number of oratorio performances in New Haven, Connecticut. She later performed on television and in concert as soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. In a unique experience in church music at the First Unitarian Church of Shaker Heights, Ohio, she was elected by the renowned Robert Shaw to be the soprano soloist. She Peterson has also recorded with the Robert Shaw Chorale, and made two tours with that group. The first tour covered eight South American countries during the summer of 1964; the second tour in 1966. She appeared with Detroit Symphony Orchestra in J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) at Meadow Brook in 1966. She was the soprano soloist in the premiere of Dave Brubeck's Cantata Truth on May 1&2, 1971 at Midland Center for the Arts, Midland, Miami. In 1982, she performed in New York J.S. Bach's Saint Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with the Waldorf Choral Society and Douglas Perry as the Evangelist. |
