The Korean baritone, Heung-Woo Park (AKA: Heung U Bahk; Korean: 박흥우), graduated in vocal music from from Chung-Ang University's College of Music in Seoul (1980-1984); then singing/opera/ Lied and oratorio at Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien in Vienna, Austria (1984-1989). He won the 1st Prize at the Dong-A Competition while attending Chung-Ang University, and as a soloist selected by audition at music colleges across Europe since his enrollment at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien, he performed L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in Yugoslavia and Graz, which were communist countries at the time.
Heung-Woo Park also toured Europe as a full member and soloist of the Vienna State Radio (ORF) Choir, gaining numerous solo experiences. In the field of opera, he appeared in many works in Germany, Italy, etc., including the leading role of Rigoletto 24 times in Vienna, and broadcasted over 500 oratorio-centered concerts and recordings with Wiener Symphoniker, ORF Orchestra, ORF Choir, Wiener Sängerknaben, and numerous other performing groups. Actively active after returning home, Heung-Woo Park has performed numerous concerts with almost all domestic symphony orchestras such as KBS, Korea Symphony, Seoul City, Incheon City, Suwon City, and the National Choir, almost all municipal choirs in Korea such as Seoul City, Incheon and Suwon, and the Seoul Motet Choir. He has released 7 solo albums, including the 76th solo recital centered on German Lieder (as of 2011) and Schubert's Winterreise. L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, which was recorded and performed with oratorios in Japan several times a year with the Osaka Philharmonic and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, has already been performed over 60 times.
Heung-Woo Park served as a full-time lecturer at Sungkyunkwan University, lectured at Seoul National University, Chung-Ang University, etc., and is currently lecturing at Hanyang University. He is the music director of the Suri Opera Company and the Wrecked Boys and Girls Choir. Since January 1999, he has the president (CEO) of Liederreich, a Lieder research group.
