PRJCT Amsterdam is a young Baroque ensemble around counter-tenor Maarten Engeltjes, founded in 2017. The ensemble is made up of a permanent core of outstanding, recently graduated Baroque musicians with a shared musical vision. The instrumentalists of PRJCT Amsterdam play on authentic instruments, restored old instruments, or copies. Artistic Director Maarten Engeltjes always seeks co-operation with other experienced, internationally established top musicians, as concertmaster and / or soloist.
In September 2017, the ensemble presented its first project and met with great success: Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, in collaboration with the writer P.F. Thomése. In the summer of 2018 PRJCT Amsterdam received a lot of praise with programs of Antonio Vivaldi and George Frideric Handel, including at the Wonderfeel festival in the Netherlands and at the early music festival in Sintra (Portugal). In November 2018 a series of concerts on Forgotten Arias from J.S. Bach was scheduled. In December, recordings have been made, which Sony released on CD in early 2019. In early 2019, "Virtuoso!", with worldly cantatas by A. Vivaldi and some gems by, among others, Monteverdi and Cavalli and Nicht mehr, will follow with works by J.S. Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude on the theme of ‘death’.
In order to continue to play at top level every time, every ensemble needs sufficient joint rehearsal time - and that certainly applies to young musicians. Rehearsing together takes time and money. PRJCT Amsterdam is not structurally subsidized and is, for this reason, apart from revenues from ticket sales, highly dependent on private and corporate sponsors.
