Philharmonische Kammerorchester Dresden (= PKOD) was re-founded in 1969 by the concertmaster Günther Siering, after in 1947, Horst Forster, a former chief conductor of the Dresdner Philharmonie (1964-1967), launched a chamber orchestra consisting of members of the Dresdner Philharmonie and completed three years as its director. Previously Gustav Mraczek (1923-1924 Artistic Director of the Dresdner Philharmonie) and Fritz Busch (GMD of the Sächsischen Staatsoper 1922-1933, and "family friend" at the Sächsischen Staatsoper) had already formed Dresdner Philharmonie Kammerorchester, which also belonged to the Dresdner Philharmonie.
The traditional history of the PKOD with the regular participation in the Dresden Collum concerts as well as the Zwinger Serenades at the Dresden Music Festival, has continued in recent years through reconstruction concerts at the Dresden Frauenkirche and its own concert series as part of chamber concerts with the Dresdner Philharmonie. Guest appearances at home and abroad (such as 2007 in Spain and Switzerland), as well as invitations to festivals, have contributed to the excellent reputation of the PKOD. The PKOD has recebtly extremely successful concerts, including with the London Bach Choir, Berner Bachchor, Dresdner Kreuzchor and with pianist Rudolf Buchbinder and violinist Vadim Gluzmann. Since 2002, the PKOD is directed by Wolfgang Hentrich, who continues the work of Ralf-Carsten Brömsels, artistic director during the 1990’s. Music making, care of high acquired playing culture and creative programme design are the main concern of the present PKOD. With particular personal involvement and support of his Philharmonic colleagues, the focus of Wolfgang Hentrich is also on special programmes for children and adolescents.
