The American baritone, Nathaniel Olson, studied at the Franz Schubert Institute. Hae hold degree from Wheaton College. He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington, studying with Timothy Noble. The time at Indiana has been active with performances as Don Giovanni, Raphael in Die Schöpfung, Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier, Eddie Carbone in A View from the Bridge and Ford in Verdi's Falstaff. Off campus performances include Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah at the First United Methodist Church, and as bass soloist in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Maurice Duruflé's Requiem in Columbus, Indiana. In March 2013, he won first place in Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition for Voice in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Nathaniel Olson performed in Sylvia McNair and Friends in Bloomington, and made his Carnegie Hall debut in Marilyn Horne's The Song Continues. The last summer brought song recitals at Ravinia as a fellow in the Steans Music Institute and the roles of Betto in Gianni Schicchi and the Ghost of Virgil in Francesca da Rimini at the Princeton Music Festival. He is actively performing and teaching throughout the world. He has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Indianapolis Opera, Oklahoma International Mozart Festival, Ravinia Festival, Princeton Festival, Tucson Desert Song Festival, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Chicago Bach Ensemble, Wheaton Artist Series, Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, at Wigmore Hall and a solo recital at Carnegie Hall for the Evenings of Song III Series. The American Songbook with Nathaniel Olson and Kevin Murphy was televised and broadcasted on public television station WTVP in Peoria, Illinois. He is also a German Lieder enthusiast,
Married to Soprano Julianne Olson, together they have toured extensively throughout South Korea with the Far East Broadcasting Company, in recital with the Ravinia Festival in the Netherlands, throughout Indonesia, and from coast to coast in the USA. Nathaniel Olson is currently a full time Lecturer of Music and Coordinator of the Classical Voice Department for the Universitas Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music in Karawaci, Indonesia. Committed to sharing music in the community, he is a member of Roundabout Opera for Kids. ROK brings family friendly operas into schools throughout southern Indiana. When not singing, he can be found writing letters, hiking, and trumpeting. |
