The German choral conductor, Jan Olberg, received his first musical training from 1969 to 1976 at the Musikschule Berlin-Treptow - piano with Sabine Klingbeil and horn with Johannes Teichert. In 1976 he enrollede to the special classes for music education in Wernigerode. Until the end of high scholl, he was an active member of the Rundfunk-Jugendchores Wernigerode. From 1983 to 1988 he studied choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar with Martin Klaus and graduated with a degree in choral conducting. From 1991 to 1996 he studied orchestral conducting at the Musikhochschule “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin with Professor Hans-Dieter Baum He continued his studies with Robert Sund and Gábor Hollerung. he received singing training from Renate Faltin.
In 1989, Jan Olberg founded with three other singers, the vocal quartet Opus 4 and was unttil 1993 its member and artistic director. During this period he made a number of radio, CD and TV productions. Since 1988 he has worked as pianist with the Rundfunk-Kinderchor-Berlin. This activity led him to several concert tours as a pianist Taiwan to Japan, the USA and Russia.
In 1995, Jan Olberg became the director of the Jugendchores des Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasiums in Berlin. In a short time, the first form of 140 boys and girls has developed to a powerful ensemble with an international reputation. Testimony to their achievements are awards in national and international choral competitions. So Die Primaner (The School Boys) won in November 1999 at the 1st International Choir Competition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, two first prizes and a golden diploma, and in 2000 a gold and silver medal at the First International Choir Olympics in Linz, Austria. In recognition of his outstanding achievements as conductor, Jan Olberg received in 1997 Conducting Prize at the 3rd International Choir Competition "Bedrich Smetana" in the Litomysl.
In 1998, Jan Olberg took over the direction of of the Jugendchores of the traditional Berliner Konzert Chor. In 2001, he was appointed as the Artistic Director of the Berliner Konzert Chor. |
