The Norwegian pianist, Lars Fredrik Nystad, has been playing the piano since he was 6 years old and at 13 he was admitted as student at the Young Talents Academy of the Barratt Due Institute of Music (Barratt Due Musikkinstitutt) in Oslo. Here he studied for six years with Marina Pliassova as his teacher, followed by studies at the Bachelor level with Professor Jiri Hlinka, and then with Professor Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, graduating in 2014. In 2016, he completed his prestigious Artist Soloist Diploma program at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Norges Musikkhøgskole), with Professor Sveinung Bjelland and Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist as his teachers (2014-2016). His former teachers also included Professor Håvard Gimse.
Lars Fredrik Nystad won the 1st Prize at the Norwegian National Youth Music Competition in 2013, and has since participted in several national and international competitions such as The 15th International Edvard Grieg Competition in Bergen, where he was amongst the 12 final candidates. He was a finalist at the 9th Nordic Piano Competition 2019, semi-finalist at the 5th and 6th Top of the World International Piano Competition, recipient of the Grieg Prize at the 16th International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition. In 2016 he was a recipient of the Levin Piano Prize, the highest honour for a Norwegian pianist.
In the last years Lars Fredrik Nystad has established himself among Norway's foremost young musicians. He made his debut as a soloist in 2012 with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and has collaborated with conductors such as Eivind Gullberg- Jensen and Torodd Wigum. In 2016 he made his solo debut at the famous University Hall in Oslo.
Lars Fredrik Nystad is also an experienced chamber musician, and his piano trio won 1st Prize at the 2014 Chamber Music Competition at the Norwegian Academy of Music. He has participated in international festivals such as The Bergen International Festival and The Holland International Music Sessions, playing both solo and chamber music. He currently lives in Oslo, Norway. |
