Elisabeth Nielsen (Piano)

Born: February 14, 1993 - Sorø (Copenhagen), Denmark

The Danish pianist, Elisabeth Homegaard Nielsen, was born in Copenhagen to a mother of Ukrainian-Polish ancestry and a father of Danish descent. She started to play piano at the age of 7 with Professor Milena Zelenetskaia. From 2008 to 2012, she studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music ((Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium) with Professor Amalie Malling, and obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in classical piano with the highest marks. From 2012 to 2014, she studied at the same institute with Professor Niklas Sivelöv, graduating in June 2014 Master of Music degree in classical piano performance with the highest marks. Since 2014 (until 2016), she is pursuing an advanced postgraduate diploma with Professor Marianna Shirinyan..

Elisabeth Nielsen has participated in master-classes with: Vera Nossina (Moscow, Russia), Eleonora Tkach (Kiev, Ukraine), Konstantin Scherbakov (Zürich, Switzerland), Paolo Giaometti (Düsseldorf, Germany), Juhani Lagerspetz (Helsinki, Finland), Louiz de Moura Castro (Brazil, Kevin) Kenner, Boris Berman and Steven Mayer (USA), Sergei Osokin (Riga, Latvia). Gianluca Luisi, Federico Gianello and Salvatore Spanò (Italy), Christopher Hinterhuber and Alexander Rössler (Austria) and Ferenc Rados (Hungary). He honors and awards include: 1st prize of the Berlingske Musikkonkurrence, Denmark (2006-2009); 2nd prize of the Steinway Competition (2010); 1st prize of the Concorso Salieri (2012).

Elisabeth Nielsen began playing piano at the same time as she was accepted at the Royal Danish School of Ballet in the year of 2000; and during all these years she has participated in concerts, competitions and music festivals, in Denmark and abroad:. In 2011, Elisabeth Nielsen was a finalist in the Scandinavian Yamaha YMFE concert in Göteborg, Sweden. In October 2012, she won three prizes at the international piano competition for young musicians in Enschede, Holland, which led to her performing the Camille Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra in October 2014. In 2012, after winning First Prize at the Salieri competition in Italy, Elisabeth was invited to study at the first Steinway Academy in Europe, an international school for gifted young musicians in Verona, Italy with Professor Federico Gianello. In 2013, she was a finalist in the soloist competition at The Royal Danish Academy of Music, with Dmitri Shostakovich;s Piano Concerto No. 2. Later, she was chosen to perform the Grieg's Piano Concerto at the 2nd Nordic masterclass for conductors, under the guidance of maestro Jorma Panula, with the National Danish Orchestra of South Jutland. In the same year, she won First Prize in the competition for pianists and the 3rd prize in the competition for all students in her academy. She has apperared at Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen; The Round Tower, Copenhagen; The Town Halls of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg; Théâtre Municipal Baltazar Dias, Madeira, Portugal (2005); Kremlin, Moscow (2008); Laeiszhalle, Hamburg (2010); Concert hall of Artisten, Gothenburg (2011); Kulm Hotel, St. Moritz, Switzerland (2011); Hovdala Music Festival (June 2012), Laudinella hotel, St. Morit (2013).

When she was 19-years-old, Elisabeth Nilsen was invited to be member of international jury at the Nuova Coppa Pianisti in Italy. At 21, she became the chairman of the European Piano Teachers Association’s youth department in Denmark and, in March 2014, she organized the “Copenhagen International Piano Weekend for the Youth” – funded by the EU.

In 2015, Elisabeth Nielsen published her first CD with the significant label Danacord, featuring works by J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann and Prokofiev.
