The Italian organist and conductor, Renato Negri, studied at Liceo Musicale Arrigo Boito in Parma (1985-1990), and in 1993 graduated in organ and composition at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma.
Renato Negri was President of the Associazione Italiana Organisti di Chiesa (Italian Association of Church Organists) from 1998 to 2007. Since 2006, he is organist of the Teatro Municipale di Reggio Emilia. In 2009 he founded the ensemble Capella Regiensis, of which he is also the director and with which he is principally performing J.S. Bach's cantatas.
The organ built by Pierpaolo Bigi in the Chiesa di San Francesco da Paola all'Ospizio in Reggio Emilia, of which Renato Negri is the titual oeganis, is one of the most significant European organs, and has been the focus of concert series created and directed by Negri, attended by famous organists as Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman, Trevor Pinnock, Simon Preston and many more. Renato Negri has, since 2005, the founder and artistic director of Soli Deo gloria, Organi, Suoni e Voci della Città, sponsored by the Assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Reggio Emilia and housed in churches and museum spaces and the province of Reggio .
Renato Negri performs numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, with a repertoire mainly focuses on the works of J.S. Bach. In one concert, he performed the complete de Die Kunst der Fuge BWV 1080 on organ. In 2007, he accompanied the organ of the Duomo di Modena the flautist Andrea Griminelli during the funeral of Luciano Pavarotti. In 2008, to celebrate the reopening of the Cattedrale di Reggio Emilia at the end of the restoration, he directed from the harpsichord a concert of Mass in B minor BWV 232 by J.S. Bach, with the Coro del Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Hungarian orchestra Capella Savaria. With the Coro e con l’Orchestra Regionale dell’Emilia Romagna from Reggio Emilia, Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Basilica magistrale della Steccata from Parma, he directed from the harpsichord, in 2010, a concert of the Magnificat BWV 242a and Cantata BWV 80 by J.S. Bach.
From 1996 to 2011 Renato Negri oversaw the organization and promotion of musical activities of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, as a cultural worker at the Comune di Reggio Emilia Assessorato Cultura e Università. He currently teaches organ at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "A. Peri" in Reggio Emilia, which houses the Hillebrand mechanical organ donated by the family Ovi-Chicchi. He currently lives in Reggio Emilia, Italy. |
