The Nederlandse Cantori - consisting of Baroque orchestra, vocal group, soloists and ensembles conducted by Maarten Kooij - could be heard every month at historic locations in Soest, Zwolle and Dordrecht. A visit to the concerts of the Nederlandse Cantorij was an adventure. An adventure because the set-up deviates completely from conventional, traditional concerts. Not: sit down, applaud and leave, but: let the artistic director, Maarten Kooij, show the listeners around the world of living classical music. Maarten Kooij's lively explanations guaranteed informal enjoyment of live music and were highly appreciated by the audience in these days of fading and electronics.
The programming was distinguished by the alternation of known and unknown repertoire. The Nederlandse Cantori regularly presented programs with unknown works that have rarely been performed since their inception. The music, both vocal and instrumental music, was performed by professional musicians on stylistic and historical grounds.
Thatthe Nederlandse Cantorij wanted to give everyone the opportunity to attend their special concerts had an ideal starting point. In order not to create a financial barrier for the less fortunate, the concert-goers determined - according to a given target amount - the admission price themselves. |
