The vocal ensemble Mysterium Musicum (Chinese: 音樂密契人聲室內樂集) was founded in 2010, by the composer Chun-yien Chang,
who was responsible for training the members at the beginning, and worked quietly to revive exquisite sacred music. In the early days, it mainly served churches, and combined live singing with lectures, with titles such as "Searching for the Holy Grail of Music - The Journey of Plain Song in the Middle Ages", "Polyphonic Music and the Flowers of Intelligence - The Renaissance", "Religious Reformation and Church Music - Bach and His Psalms"... has so far spread to more than 30 churches in Northern Taiwan, re-introducing the rich connotation of sacred music to people in a concise and vivid way that spans thousands of years.
In order to achieve diversified development in 2011, the group members decided to formally establish the "Music Secret Vocal Chamber Music Group", with Zhu Peiling as the group leader, composer Chun-yien Chang as the music director, and cellist Dr. Liu Shengwen as the instrumental instructor. In 2016, Dr. Liu Shengwen took over as music director, and composer Chun-yien Chang continued as conductor. In 2017, Chih-fang Chiang became assistant conductor and vocal coach.
In 2015, the vocal ensemble was invited to serve as the goodwill ambassador of the International Hunger Countermeasures Association, bringing exquisite sacred music to venues outside the church such as Academia Sinica, Cosmic Light Music Lectures, and the Hospice Ward of Mackay Hospital; in 2016, the first full-length concert was held at Zhonglun Church Concerts; it has been cooperating with Jinan Church since 2017, including two fixed music services on Good Friday and Christmas Eve every year. On the 10th anniversary of its establishment in 2020, the "Secret Agreement with God" Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and Thanksgiving Concert was held. In 2022, the "Dedication and Secret Agreement" concert was hel held for the first time at the National Concert Hall and Kaohsiung Weiwu Camp to share the results with a wider audience. It also premiered composer Chun-yien Chang's work Ring of Presence, which has won many awards. The first-time audience responded enthusiastically.
Mysterium Musicum hopes to continue to benefit people's souls in the ever-changing modern society through pious ancient singing that comes from the heart. |
