The Finnish-born tenorm Jussi Myllys, studied singing with Kimmo Lappalainen since 1997. Since 2000, he studied at the Sibelius Academy of Music, Music Education Department. He has deepened his vocal studies by attending courses with Tom Krause and Salvatore Fisichellan.
Jussi Myllys began his international career in 2005, singing Don Ottavio in Turku and at the Komische Oper Berlin as well as several concerts in Prague und Riga with Peter Schreier conducting and in Japan together with the RIAS-Kammerchor. In Turku, he also performed Scenes of Faust by Robert Schumann, and he has been participating in a recording of Aulis Sallinen’s Kuningas lähtee Ranskaan (The King goes forth to France) with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. After finishing his studies, he performed both as a singer and dancer in several productions, such as Cosí fan tutte, La Clemenza di Tito, Die Fledermaus and several contemporary works.
An ensemble member of the the Frankfurt Opera from 2006 to 2009, Jussi Myllys performed in many productions including Die Zauberflöte, Billy Budd, Fidelio, La Finta Giardiniera, Don Giovanni, among others. His guest engagements include Don Giovanni in Berlin, Die Zauberflöte in Dresden, Der Fliegende Holländer in Savonlinna Opera Festival (2008), Salome in Genève and Falstaff in the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki (2009).
Being quite active as a concert singer, Jussi Myllys has sung such works as J.S. Bach’s Passion of St.Matthew (BWV 244) and Magnificat (BWV 243), George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, among others. He also performed Felix Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang under the baton of Hervé Niquet in Montpellier (2007), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) together with Markus Stenz and the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, and Wolfgang Rihm’s Deus Passus with the Bachakademie Stuttgart and Helmuth Rilling conducting (2008).
At the beginning of the 2009-2010 season, Jussi Myllys joined the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. His roles there include Narraboth, Tamino, Belmonte, Ferrando and Hippolyt in Henze´s Phaedra. In March 2010 he made his house debut at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, in a new opera by Péter Eötvös, Tragedy of the Devil and he has been heard there again also as Jaquino during the 2010-2011 season. |
